Information on Prof. Helen Cross
Professor Helen Cross is The Prince of Wales's Chair of Childhood Epilepsy, Director of the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, and an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Neurology at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Young Epilepsy.
Education & training: UK medical and neurology training followed by senior academic appointments at UCL and leadership roles spanning paediatric epileptology and translational therapeutics.
Clinical interests: Complex childhood epilepsies across the age range, presurgical evaluation and epilepsy surgery pathways, and dietary and pharmacological therapies embedded within multidisciplinary care.
Research, teaching & leadership: Heads developmental neuroscience and childhood epilepsy research at UCL, has helped establish high-quality evidence for dietary therapies and advanced imaging in drug-resistant childhood epilepsy, and provides national and international academic leadership.
Service & systems: Integrates genetics, neurophysiology and imaging with MDT decision-making across paediatric epilepsy services, including national networks such as Children's Epilepsy Surgery Service pathways.
Selected publications & contributions: Highly cited work on outcomes after epilepsy surgery and optimising therapy in early-onset epilepsies, with sustained guideline and policy impact.
