Information on Prof. Carsten Flohr
Professor Carsten Flohr BM BCh MA PhD is Chair in Dermatology and Population Health Science at King's College London and a Consultant Dermatologist at the St John's Institute of Dermatology, where he directs the Unit for Population-Based Dermatology Research and leads research and clinical services in paediatric dermatology and atopic dermatitis.
Education & training: Studied at the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, trained in paediatrics and dermatology and became the UK's first NIHR Clinician Scientist in Dermatology (2009–2014), subsequently holding an NIHR Career Development Fellowship (2014–2020).
Clinical interests: Atopic dermatitis across the life course, severe eczema therapeutics including biologics and JAK inhibitors, and complex paediatric dermatology integrated with allergy and infection care.
Research, teaching & leadership: Leads international programmes on AD prevention, early-life risk factors and links with food allergy via transcutaneous sensitisation, supervises doctoral and clinical fellows and serves as R&D Lead at St John's.
Service & systems: Embeds clinical trials and registries into routine paediatric-dermatology care with PROMs and real-world evidence capture and collaborates across KCL, GSTT and international networks.
Selected publications & contributions: Highly cited outputs in AD epidemiology and therapeutics, consensus statements and invited keynotes shaping guidelines and public health policy.
