Professor Tim Briggs CBE is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and a national leader in surgical quality improvement as Chair of the Getting It Right First Time programme and former National Director for Clinical Quality and Efficiency in the NHS.
Education & training: Qualified from The Royal London Hospital in 1982 with honours, completed senior registrar training in orthopaedics and was appointed Consultant at the RNOH in 1992.
Clinical interests: Orthopaedic oncology and complex hip and knee surgery within a tertiary referral practice, alongside leadership in training and service delivery standards.
Research, teaching & leadership: Former Medical Director at the RNOH for 15 years and past President of the British Orthopaedic Association, with national roles establishing GIRFT across >40 specialties to reduce unwarranted variation and improve outcomes.
Service & systems: Develops data-driven pathways and benchmarking that standardise care, reduce infection and revision rates and support workforce and theatre productivity across the NHS.
Awards & honours: Appointed CBE and widely recognised for contributions to orthopaedic surgery and national quality improvement.
