Consultant HPB and general surgeon; academic leader in hepatobiliary surgery.

Professor Brian R. Davidson is a Consultant in HPB and Liver Transplant Surgery at the Royal Free Hospital and Professor of Surgery at University College London, leading surgical research and complex liver, biliary and pancreatic cancer services.

Education & training: Medical training followed by higher surgical and academic appointments in London, culminating in professorship at UCL and consultant practice at the Royal Free within the Liver Unit.

Clinical interests: Major hepatic resection, pancreatic and biliary cancer surgery, management of portal hypertension and complex HPB benign disease, and integration with living- and deceased-donor transplant pathways.

Research, teaching & leadership: Head of surgical research at UCL with hundreds of peer-reviewed publications, leadership of multicentre trials and technology assessment in HPB surgery, and supervision of clinical and doctoral fellows.

Service & systems: Develops data-driven peri-operative care, ERAS protocols and registry-linked outcomes monitoring within a high-volume HPB and transplant programme.

Selected publications & contributions: Widely cited work on HPB oncology, transplant outcomes and evidence synthesis in surgery with invited keynotes and guideline input.
