Mr Richard (John Richard) Novell MS FRCS is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital, providing comprehensive care for colorectal cancer and benign colorectal and general surgical conditions alongside endoscopy services.

Education & training: Awarded a Master of Surgery (Cambridge, 1992) for a thesis on the treatment of liver tumours; appointed Consultant Surgeon at Luton & Dunstable and Spire Harpenden Hospitals in 1994; moved to the Royal Free Hospital in 2006 to join the colorectal cancer team.

Clinical interests: Colorectal cancer and benign colorectal disease, hernia surgery and a full endoscopy practice including diagnostic and screening colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy.

Research, teaching & leadership: Senior member of the Royal Free colorectal unit managing high annual volumes of new colorectal cancer cases, with ongoing contributions to service audit and trainee education.

Service & systems: Runs MDT-embedded colorectal pathways integrating imaging, endoscopy, peri-operative optimisation and structured surveillance.
