Consultant dermatologist and lead clinician in melanoma and skin cancer clinics.

Dr Venura Samarasinghe MBChB MRCP(Derm) is a Consultant Dermatologist and Dermatological Surgeon at St George’s, where he is the dermatology lead for skin cancer and runs high-volume lesion and surgery clinics.

Education & training: Graduated from the University of Manchester in 2002, completed specialist dermatology training on the North-West programme and undertook a Royal College-accredited fellowship in Mohs micrographic and dermatological surgery at St John’s Institute of Dermatology.

Clinical interests: Skin-cancer screening and surgery including Mohs micrographic surgery, complex cutaneous oncology, precancer management and comprehensive medical dermatology for inflammatory skin disease.

Research, teaching & leadership: Past departmental Clinical Lead at St George’s, regular national and international lecturer on skin cancer and surgery, and contributor to clinical trials and joint dermatology–plastics training initiatives.

Service & systems: Runs dermoscopy-led one-stop lesion pathways with same-day biopsy or excision where indicated and structured surveillance for high-risk patients.

Selected publications & contributions: Peer-reviewed work and invited education on skin-cancer surgery, margins, Mohs technique and peri-operative safety.
