Director of Eating Disorder Unit; leader in treatment and research of eating disorders.

Professor Janet Treasure OBE PhD FRCP FRCPsych is Professor of Adult Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King’s College London, and a senior clinician–scientist in the Maudsley Eating Disorders service.

Education & training: Trained in medicine and physiology at the University of London and developed a career-long academic–clinical programme at the Maudsley/IoPPN focusing on the causes and treatment of eating disorders.

Clinical interests: Comprehensive assessment and care across anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and related feeding and eating disorders, with strong carer involvement and stepped, evidence-based pathways from outpatient to intensive settings.

Research, teaching & leadership: International leader in eating disorders research with programmes in aetiology, neuropsychology and health-services/carer interventions, and supervisor of generations of clinical academics at KCL/IoPPN.

Service & systems: Co-developer of the MANTRA model for adult anorexia and the New Maudsley Collaborative Care approach for carers, embedding skills-based carer work and shared decision-making into routine care.

Awards & honours: Elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2022 and appointed OBE for services to people with eating disorders in the 2013 New Year Honours.

Selected publications & contributions: Author of >300 peer-reviewed papers, influential textbooks and public-facing resources on carer skills and recovery, with ongoing multi-centre trials translating mechanisms into treatment.
