Consultant interventional radiologist and lead of Interventional Oncology Service at UCLH.

Dr Steve Bandula is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist who leads the Interventional Oncology Service at UCLH, specialising in image-guided cancer therapy.

Education & academic track: Graduated from the University of Cambridge, completed surgical training with MRCS (2005), became a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and was awarded an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship to advance diagnostic imaging in heart and liver disease.

Clinical practice: Delivers percutaneous tumour ablation using microwave, radiofrequency and cryoablation, with service pathways that include irreversible electroporation where indicated.

Service scale & pathway: The UCLH Interventional Oncology Service undertakes approximately 150 cancer ablations and 120 image-guided pain procedures each year, with pre- and post-treatment clinics based in the Macmillan Cancer Centre.

Research & leadership: Leads the Foundation for Interventional Oncology Research at UCLH Charity and publishes on minimally invasive oncologic therapies and image-guided tissue targeting.

Selected outputs: Peer-reviewed work spans renal cryoablation outcomes and randomised studies comparing ablation with surgery in high-risk patients.
