Prof. Omar Mahroo

Professor Omar M. Mahroo PhD FRCOphth is a clinical academic at Moorfields Eye Hospital and University College London whose work bridges retinal electrophysiology, imaging and the clinical management of inherited and acquired retinal disorders.

Education & training: Medical training in the UK with higher ophthalmic training in London and a research doctorate in retinal physiology, followed by clinical and academic posts at Moorfields and UCL.

Clinical interests: Electrophysiological assessment of retinal function, inherited retinal dystrophies, macular and optic-nerve disorders and integration of advanced imaging with ERG-guided diagnosis.

Research & teaching: Leads programmes using multimodal imaging and human electrophysiology to map photoreceptor and inner-retinal dysfunction, with extensive peer-reviewed publications and supervision of clinical–academic trainees.

Service & systems: Runs tertiary ERG and complex retina clinics linked to genetics, low-vision and counselling services with clear written information and longitudinal outcome measures.
