Dr Jonathan Hughes is a Consultant ENT and Head & Neck Surgeon with joint practice at University College London Hospitals and the Royal Free London, specialising in thyroid, parathyroid and salivary-gland surgery alongside comprehensive head and neck oncology pathways.

Education & training: Completed higher surgical training in otorhinolaryngology and dedicated fellowships in head and neck and endocrine surgery, leading to consultant appointments across two central London teaching trusts.

Clinical interests: Thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy with intra-operative nerve monitoring, management of thyroid cancer and benign nodular disease, salivary-gland surgery including parotid and submandibular procedures with nerve-sparing techniques, neck lumps and sentinel node pathways, voice and swallowing disorders and general ENT.

Research, teaching & leadership: MDT leadership roles within thyroid and head-and-neck cancer boards, educational faculty for endocrine and head-and-neck courses and ongoing audit of outcomes and complications.

Service & systems: Runs ultrasound-first endocrine pathways integrating cytology, molecular testing where appropriate, day-case surgery and structured survivorship and surveillance follow-up.
