Consultant colorectal and general surgeon specialising in IBD, pelvic floor disorders and hernia repair.

Dr Amir Darakhshan is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust with a subspecialist focus on inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders and advanced hernia repair using laparoscopic techniques.

Education & training: Graduated from King's College Hospital London, completed higher surgical training in London and the South East of England, and undertook specialist colorectal training with an emphasis on minimally invasive surgery and pelvic floor pathways.

Clinical interests: IBD surgery including segmental and restorative procedures, pelvic floor dysfunction including rectal prolapse and obstructed defaecation, complex abdominal wall and groin hernia repair, and colorectal cancer surgery with an MDT approach.

Research, teaching & leadership: Surgical Simulation Lead at Guy's & St Thomas', contributor to peer-reviewed work on colorectal and pelvic floor disease, and regular educator for trainees and referrers on imaging-led decision-making and peri-operative optimisation.

Service & systems: Designs one-stop, imaging-integrated pelvic floor and colorectal pathways linking physiology, endoscopy and radiology with enhanced recovery and structured follow-up.

Selected publications & contributions: Clinical reviews and educational resources on laparoscopic colorectal surgery, pelvic floor algorithms and hernia pathways, with invited talks to professional audiences.
