Mr Sakhawat (Zak) Rahman FRCS is a Consultant Surgeon in General, Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) and Upper GI Surgery at the Royal Free London, with a tertiary practice in complex biliary and pancreatic disease and minimally invasive techniques.

Education & training: Advanced laparoscopic training since 2000 and appointment as Consultant in 2008, with ongoing roles developing complex laparoscopic services and mentoring surgeons in HPB and upper GI procedures.

Clinical interests: Complex biliary disease, pancreatic cancer, hiatal hernia, gastroparesis, bariatric and metabolic surgery and emergency general surgery, with keyhole and robotic approaches where appropriate.

Research, teaching & leadership: Hunterian Professor of Surgery (RCS England), Honorary Senior Lecturer (UCL), former Clinical Lead for HPB Surgery and sector lead for London Cancer (HPB), >50 peer-reviewed publications and >200 abstracts and international presentations.

Service & systems: Leads MDT-integrated HPB and upper GI pathways with ERAS protocols, outcomes audit and cross-site service coordination within one of Europe’s largest HPB services.

Selected publications & contributions: Research on pancreatitis genetics, pancreatic cancer and gastroparesis, and ongoing work in minimally invasive HPB practice and governance.
